One of Manhattan’s largest landlords, SL Green currently owns 32 New York City office assets. It was a busy year for the REIT, first teaming up with Gramercy Capital, of which SL Green is a majority shareholder, to acquire a stake in 885 Third Ave., better known as the Lipstick Building, for $317 million. It also picked up 331 Madison Ave. and 48 East 43rd St. for $73 million and 333 West 34th St., which is triple net leased to Citgroup, for $183 million. But its biggest transaction of 2007 was the $6-billion acquisition of Reckson Associates Realty Corp., which closed in January after a heated battle against such formidable contenders as Mack-Cali, Macklowe Properties and Carl Icahn. SL Green also owns 285,000 sf of Manhattan retail properties and seven million sf in suburban assets in Long Island, NY, Westchester County, NY, Connecticut and New Jersey. Established in 1997, SL Green built on the commercial real estate business of SL Green Properties, founded in 1980 by Stephen L. Green.
